Five-country comparison · Debit and credit card rates · Independent of Revolut

Does Revolut Plus earn RevPoints?

Yes. Eligible Revolut Plus customers who participate in the RevPoints loyalty programme can earn points through qualifying purchases and other supported programme activities. However, Plus does not automatically earn more regular RevPoints than Standard.

In the five markets covered by this guide, Revolut publishes the same regular debit card earning rate for Standard and Plus. Both earn 1 RevPoint per 10 units of the relevant local currency on eligible purchases.

That means 1 RevPoint per £10 of eligible spending in the UK or 1 RevPoint per €10 in Germany, France, Ireland and Spain. Irish and Spanish customers may also have access to eligible Revolut credit cards with a separate published rate.

This article explains the current Plus earning rates, provides spending examples and examines whether a paid Plus subscription makes sense specifically for customers interested in collecting RevPoints.

The key fact about Revolut Plus RevPoints

In the UK, Germany, France, Ireland and Spain, Plus has the same published regular debit card RevPoints rate as Standard. Upgrading from Standard to Plus does not increase the regular debit card earning rate in these five markets. Other Plus subscription benefits must be evaluated separately.

Revolut Plus RevPoints earning rates by country

Revolut publishes country-specific information about regular points earned on eligible card spending. The table below compares Plus in the five countries currently covered by our guides.

Published Revolut Plus RevPoints rates in five countries
Country Plus debit card Plus credit card
United Kingdom 1 RevPoint per £10 Not separately listed
Germany 1 RevPoint per €10 Not separately listed
France 1 RevPoint per €10 Not separately listed
Ireland 1 RevPoint per €10 1.5 RevPoints per €10
Spain 1 RevPoint per €10 1.5 RevPoints per €10

Rates apply to eligible transactions under the relevant personal RevPoints programme conditions. Credit card rates in Ireland and Spain apply only to qualifying Revolut credit cards. Where no separate rate is listed, this table makes no claim about credit card availability or rewards.

The fact that the regular debit card rates match across these countries does not make all programme rules identical. Eligible spending, available features, card products and redemption options can differ by market.

For international comparisons, always use the country associated with your Revolut account. Spending in another currency does not automatically change the earning rules that apply to your account.

Plus credit card rates in Ireland and Spain

Revolut publishes a Plus credit card rate of 1.5 RevPoints per €10 of eligible spending for Ireland and Spain. The rate is higher than the corresponding debit card rate, but obtaining a qualifying credit card depends on availability, eligibility and approval.

Revolut Plus vs Standard: which earns more RevPoints?

For regular eligible debit card spending, neither plan has a higher earning rate in the five markets reviewed here. Plus and Standard award the same number of points when the same eligible amount and calculation assumptions apply.

Standard vs Plus regular debit card earning rates
Country Standard Plus Difference
United Kingdom 1 per £10 1 per £10 Same rate
Germany 1 per €10 1 per €10 Same rate
France 1 per €10 1 per €10 Same rate
Ireland 1 per €10 1 per €10 Same rate
Spain 1 per €10 1 per €10 Same rate

Consider a customer in Germany who spends €2,000 each month on fully eligible debit card purchases. Both Standard and Plus would produce a simplified estimate of 200 regular RevPoints per month.

Over twelve identical months, either plan would produce an estimated 2,400 points. Paying for Plus would not increase that particular regular earning total.

What about Plus and Standard credit cards?

In Ireland and Spain, Revolut also publishes matching Standard and Plus credit card earning rates of 1.5 RevPoints per €10 of eligible spending. Therefore, switching between these two plans does not increase the published regular credit card rate in those markets either.

Does paying for Plus mean more RevPoints?

Not from the regular card spending rates compared here. A Plus subscription may include other account features, but the standard RevPoints earning rate alone does not justify an upgrade from Standard in these five countries.

For more details about the free plan, see our Revolut Standard RevPoints guide.

How many RevPoints can you earn with Plus each month?

The following simplified estimates use Plus’s published regular debit card rate of one point per ten units of local currency. All spending is assumed to qualify.

Estimated Plus RevPoints from eligible debit card spending
Eligible monthly spending Monthly RevPoints Yearly RevPoints
250 25 300
500 50 600
1,000 100 1,200
1,500 150 1,800
2,000 200 2,400
3,000 300 3,600

Spending amounts represent GBP for UK customers or EUR for the four eurozone markets listed here. These are illustrative debit card calculations. Actual RevPoints can differ because of excluded transactions, calculation rules, rounding and other conditions.

For example, a Plus customer in the United Kingdom spending £1,500 on fully eligible debit card purchases would have an estimated 150 regular RevPoints for that month.

Similarly, a Plus customer in France spending €1,500 on fully eligible debit card purchases would have an estimated 150 regular RevPoints. This does not suggest that the pound and euro have an identical monetary value.

Revolut Plus debit vs credit card RevPoints in Ireland and Spain

Customers with an eligible Revolut credit card in Ireland or Spain have a separately published Plus rate of 1.5 points per €10, compared with one point per €10 on eligible debit card spending.

Illustrative Plus earnings in Ireland or Spain
Monthly eligible spending Debit card points Eligible credit card points
€500 50 75
€1,000 100 150
€1,500 150 225
€2,000 200 300
€3,000 300 450

These values are mathematical illustrations assuming fully eligible spending and the published regular rates. Credit card access is subject to availability, approval and applicable card terms. Actual awards may differ because of transaction-level calculations and exclusions.

At €2,000 of fully eligible monthly spending, this comparison produces 200 points for Plus debit card purchases and 300 points for Plus credit card purchases in Ireland or Spain.

The higher credit card rate should not be considered in isolation. A credit card has its own agreement and financial obligations, and earning loyalty points does not eliminate borrowing costs or justify unnecessary spending.

Credit card points are not a reason to borrow

Never assume that a higher RevPoints rate compensates for interest, fees or other credit card costs. Consider credit card eligibility and all applicable financial terms separately from loyalty points.

Revolut Plus vs Premium: when do RevPoints earning rates increase?

While the regular earning rate does not increase from Standard to Plus, Revolut Premium does have a higher published rate for eligible debit card spending in the five reviewed markets.

Regular debit card RevPoints rates across Revolut plans
Plan United Kingdom Germany, France, Ireland and Spain
Standard 1 per £10 1 per €10
Plus 1 per £10 1 per €10
Premium 1 per £4 1 per €4
Metal 1 per £2 1 per €2
Ultra 1 per £1 1 per €1

This table compares regular eligible debit card spending only. It does not describe the separate credit card rates published in Ireland and Spain or special promotional earning offers.

For a simplified £1,000 of eligible UK debit card spending, Plus would earn approximately 100 regular RevPoints, while Premium would earn 250. The difference would be 150 points.

At €2,000 of eligible debit card spending in Germany, Plus would earn an estimated 200 points and Premium 500. That is a difference of 300 points for the same assumed spending.

Whether these additional points justify the higher subscription price depends on the fees, other benefits and eventual redemption value. RevPoints are not equivalent to a fixed amount of cash.

Is Revolut Plus worth it for RevPoints alone?

For customers considering Plus specifically to earn more regular RevPoints, the published rates provide an unusually straightforward answer in the five markets reviewed: Plus does not earn more than Standard at the same eligible regular card spending rate.

Because Standard does not require a paid subscription, paying for Plus purely to increase the regular points rate would not achieve that objective under the rates shown here.

However, Plus may offer additional account services or other benefits, depending on the market and current subscription terms. These are separate considerations from the regular RevPoints rate.

1

Compare actual RevPoints rates

Start with the published rate for Standard and Plus in your country. If the rates are identical for your card, there is no regular points increase from upgrading between those plans.

2

Review the subscription price

Check the current Plus fee in the Revolut app or on the official local plan page. Costs and payment conditions may vary by market.

3

Assess the other Plus benefits

Consider whether the subscription’s non-RevPoints features provide useful benefits for your actual needs. Do not assign value to features you would never use.

4

Compare higher plans separately

If a higher regular points rate is your objective, Premium, Metal and Ultra have different published rates. Evaluate the cost of each plan against the realistic benefits available to you.

There is no RevPoints-only break-even spending amount for Standard vs Plus

When two plans award the same regular points for the same eligible spending, increasing that spending does not create a points earning advantage for one over the other. Other subscription features may still make Plus worthwhile for individual customers.

Which purchases earn RevPoints with Revolut Plus?

Plus customers must follow the same general principle as other RevPoints participants: only eligible purchases and supported programme activities earn points. Not every payment qualifies.

Regular points can be earned from qualifying card purchases made using a supported Revolut card. Ordinary consumer spending may qualify when the transaction meets the programme conditions and is not classified in an excluded category.

Revolut’s official help pages list exclusions including money transfers, wallet top-ups, cash-like activity, cryptocurrency purchases, brokerage transactions, financial and insurance services, taxes, fines, gambling and payments to utility providers.

Certain merchant categories involving charities, educational organisations, property, parking, specialist business services and other activities can also be excluded.

Transactions carried out using a Revolut Pro account are excluded from the regular personal RevPoints rules described in the reviewed help pages.

Example: eligible spending makes the difference

If a German Plus customer has €2,000 in monthly outgoings but €600 is excluded from RevPoints earning, the remaining €1,400 would produce a simplified estimate of 140 regular RevPoints at the published debit card rate. Using all €2,000 would overestimate the result.

For a more detailed breakdown, see our Eligible RevPoints Spending Guide.

Can Revolut Plus customers earn extra RevPoints?

Besides ordinary eligible card spending, Revolut describes additional ways of collecting points. Availability depends on the customer’s country, account and the specific offer.

01

Revolut Shops

Participating merchants may offer additional RevPoints through qualifying purchases. Specific offer activation, payment and eligibility conditions can apply.

02

Stays & Experiences

Eligible bookings through supported Revolut services may offer points under separate booking and promotional conditions.

03

Revolut Pay

Eligible Revolut Pay purchases with participating merchants may provide points where the relevant earning opportunity is available.

04

Points Pockets

In supported markets, maintaining a qualifying balance in a Points Pocket may generate additional RevPoints according to the feature’s conditions.

What about Spare Change?

Spare Change is different from regular points earned through purchases. Where enabled, Revolut uses money from your account to acquire RevPoints. These are purchased points rather than points awarded for eligible card spending.

The cost and conditions should be reviewed before enabling Spare Change or purchasing points directly. Acquiring more points using your own money does not automatically provide a financial benefit.

Our How to Earn RevPoints guide explains these earning methods in more detail.

How can you use RevPoints earned with Plus?

RevPoints earned through qualifying Plus activities can be redeemed for rewards supported by the programme. Availability depends on the relevant country and account.

01

Airline miles

Transfer eligible RevPoints to participating airline loyalty programmes, subject to the partner’s conversion ratios and transfer terms.

02

Stays & Experiences

Use available points towards selected accommodation or activity booking discounts where the reward is offered.

03

Gift cards & discounts

Depending on availability, eligible gift cards, Revolut Pay discounts and other supported rewards may be offered.

Revolut confirms that RevPoints do not have a fixed monetary value and cannot be exchanged directly for cash. The practical benefit depends on the specific reward and redemption terms.

For details, read our RevPoints Redemption Guide and RevPoints Value Guide.

Do Revolut Plus RevPoints expire?

Revolut’s official help pages for the five reviewed countries state that RevPoints are generally valid for three years from their issue date.

Points credited at different times can have different expiry dates. Earning additional points does not necessarily extend the validity of points you already hold.

You can review your current points balance and relevant expiry information in the RevPoints section of the Revolut app.

Our RevPoints Expiry Guide explains the general validity rules and how to check when points are due to expire.
