How do RevPoints work with Revolut Metal?
Revolut Metal is a paid personal account plan offering a higher regular RevPoints earning rate than Standard, Plus and Premium in the five markets covered by this guide. Eligible customers can collect points through qualifying card transactions after joining the RevPoints programme.
In the United Kingdom, Metal customers earn 1 RevPoint per £2 of eligible debit card spending. In Germany, France, Ireland and Spain, the published regular debit card rate is 1 RevPoint per €2.
Ireland and Spain have another important distinction: Revolut publishes a separate earning rate of 1 RevPoint per €1 for qualifying Metal credit card purchases. Credit card access is subject to availability, eligibility and approval.
This article explains Metal earning rates, provides practical spending examples, compares the plan with Premium and Ultra, and highlights the spending restrictions that can affect how many points you actually receive.
Metal RevPoints at a glance
Metal earns regular RevPoints at twice the Premium debit card rate and five times the Standard or Plus debit card rate in the five reviewed markets. Ultra has an even higher debit card rate. The points you earn have no fixed cash value, and a paid subscription is not automatically worthwhile purely because it generates more points.
Revolut Metal RevPoints earning rates by country
Revolut publishes the following regular Metal rates for eligible card transactions in the five countries covered by our independent guides.
| Country | Metal debit card | Metal credit card |
|---|---|---|
| United Kingdom | 1 RevPoint per £2 | Not separately listed |
| Germany | 1 RevPoint per €2 | Not separately listed |
| France | 1 RevPoint per €2 | Not separately listed |
| Ireland | 1 RevPoint per €2 | 1 RevPoint per €1 |
| Spain | 1 RevPoint per €2 | 1 RevPoint per €1 |
These rates apply to qualifying transactions under the relevant personal RevPoints programme. The absence of a separate credit card rate in the UK, Germany or France does not establish credit card availability or eligibility. Irish and Spanish credit card rates apply only to qualifying, approved Revolut credit cards.
The published regular debit card rates follow the same numerical pattern across these countries, but that does not mean the programmes are identical. Card availability, transaction exclusions, special earning offers and other programme conditions may differ.
Always select the country of your Revolut account when estimating your RevPoints. Making a purchase in a foreign currency does not automatically change which country’s programme rules apply.
Why the card type matters in Ireland and Spain
A Metal customer with an eligible credit card in Ireland or Spain may earn twice as many regular RevPoints as a customer making the same fully eligible purchases with a debit card, based on the published rates. The higher rate must not be applied to ordinary debit card spending.
How many RevPoints can Metal earn per month?
At the published regular debit card rate of 1 RevPoint per 2 units of eligible local-currency spending, the basic estimate is straightforward: divide the qualifying spending amount by two.
| Eligible monthly spending | Monthly RevPoints | Yearly RevPoints |
|---|---|---|
| £500 / €500 | 250 | 3,000 |
| £1,000 / €1,000 | 500 | 6,000 |
| £1,500 / €1,500 | 750 | 9,000 |
| £2,000 / €2,000 | 1,000 | 12,000 |
| £2,500 / €2,500 | 1,250 | 15,000 |
| £3,000 / €3,000 | 1,500 | 18,000 |
Each row represents either GBP spending in the UK or EUR spending in the reviewed eurozone markets, not a currency conversion between pounds and euros. The table covers eligible debit card purchases only and assumes twelve identical months for yearly estimates. Actual awards can differ because of eligibility exclusions, rounding and other conditions.
For example, a Metal customer in Germany spending €2,000 a month on fully eligible debit card purchases would have a simplified estimate of 1,000 RevPoints per month, or 12,000 over twelve identical months.
A UK Metal customer spending £1,500 on qualifying debit card purchases would have an estimated 750 points for the month. These calculations do not include promotional earning opportunities or points purchased using your own money.

Revolut Metal vs Premium: how many extra RevPoints?
Metal earns twice as many regular RevPoints as Premium from the same amount of eligible debit card spending in the five reviewed countries.
| Comparison | Premium | Metal |
|---|---|---|
| UK earning rate | 1 point per £4 | 1 point per £2 |
| Eurozone earning rate in reviewed markets | 1 point per €4 | 1 point per €2 |
| Points on 1,000 eligible currency units | 250 | 500 |
| Points on 2,000 eligible currency units | 500 | 1,000 |
For €2,000 of fully eligible monthly debit card spending in France, Premium would earn an estimated 500 RevPoints, while Metal would earn approximately 1,000.
That represents 500 additional points per month, or 6,000 additional points over twelve identical months.
However, an additional 6,000 points does not represent a guaranteed amount of money. The potential benefit depends on which rewards are available, how many points they require and what you would otherwise pay.
Is Metal automatically better value than Premium?
No. Metal has the higher regular earning rate, but it also has its own subscription price. Compare the additional points and other Metal benefits with the difference in subscription cost before deciding whether an upgrade makes sense.
Revolut Metal vs Ultra: which earns more RevPoints?
Ultra has a higher regular debit card earning rate than Metal in all five markets reviewed. For the same eligible debit card spending, Ultra earns twice as many regular points as Metal.
| Plan | Regular rate | Estimated points |
|---|---|---|
| Premium | 1 per £4 | 500 |
| Metal | 1 per £2 | 1,000 |
| Ultra | 1 per £1 | 2,000 |
This example uses UK eligible debit card rates only. The other reviewed countries have the same numerical debit card rate pattern in euros. These figures are estimates based on fully eligible spending.
For £2,000 of eligible UK debit card spending, the simplified difference between Metal and Ultra is 1,000 points. Over twelve identical months, that would equal 12,000 additional RevPoints with Ultra.
Whether that difference has enough practical value to justify Ultra’s subscription cost depends on the rewards you use, other plan benefits and your individual circumstances.
Higher earning rates have diminishing relevance if rewards are not useful
The number of points earned is only one side of the comparison. If the rewards available to you are not attractive, collecting more points may not justify paying a higher subscription fee.
Metal debit vs credit card RevPoints in Ireland and Spain
Metal customers in Ireland and Spain have a particularly clear difference between the published regular debit and eligible credit card earning rates.
Revolut publishes 1 RevPoint per €2 for eligible Metal debit card spending and 1 RevPoint per €1 for eligible Metal credit card spending in these two markets.
| Eligible monthly spending | Debit card | Eligible credit card |
|---|---|---|
| €500 | 250 | 500 |
| €1,000 | 500 | 1,000 |
| €1,500 | 750 | 1,500 |
| €2,000 | 1,000 | 2,000 |
| €2,500 | 1,250 | 2,500 |
| €3,000 | 1,500 | 3,000 |
Simplified mathematical estimates assuming all transactions qualify and no rounding differences occur. The credit card column applies only to eligible and approved Revolut credit cards in Ireland and Spain.
For a qualifying Metal credit card customer with €2,000 in fully eligible monthly purchases, the published rate produces a theoretical 2,000 RevPoints. The same spending amount on an eligible Metal debit card would produce approximately 1,000 points.
Does a higher credit card rate make a credit card worthwhile?
Not automatically. A credit card may involve borrowing costs, interest, fees, repayment obligations and eligibility criteria that must be evaluated separately. RevPoints should never be treated as a reason to take on unnecessary debt.
Card eligibility comes first
A Metal subscription does not guarantee access to a Revolut credit card. Credit card availability and approval are separate matters. Our published rate comparisons should not be interpreted as credit offers or as confirmation that a particular card is available to every customer.
How does Metal compare with all five Revolut plans?
Looking at the complete personal-plan range shows where Metal sits between the lower-priced plans and Ultra for regular eligible debit card spending.
| Revolut plan | UK | Germany, France, Ireland, Spain |
|---|---|---|
| Standard | 1 point per £10 | 1 point per €10 |
| Plus | 1 point per £10 | 1 point per €10 |
| Premium | 1 point per £4 | 1 point per €4 |
| Metal | 1 point per £2 | 1 point per €2 |
| Ultra | 1 point per £1 | 1 point per €1 |
These are regular eligible debit card rates, not the separate credit card rates published for Ireland and Spain. Special offers and other earning mechanisms are excluded from this comparison.
For the same eligible debit card spending, Metal produces five times as many regular RevPoints as Standard or Plus, twice as many as Premium and half as many as Ultra.
The comparison demonstrates differences in earning rates, but it does not establish which plan is most cost-effective. That depends on subscription fees, other benefits and realistic redemption value.
Is Revolut Metal worth it for RevPoints?
Metal can earn significantly more regular RevPoints than the lower tiers. To assess whether that matters financially, compare the additional points with the subscription cost and benefits you would actually use.
Identify your eligible spending
Use the amount of monthly card purchases likely to qualify for RevPoints. Exclude financial transfers, taxes, utilities and other ineligible transactions.
Calculate the additional points
Compare Metal against your current plan using the same eligible spending amount, country and supported card type.
Check current subscription fees
Review the official Metal subscription price in your country, including any billing or cancellation conditions that apply.
Evaluate realistic rewards
Consider what your additional points could actually be redeemed for. Points are not directly equivalent to a fixed amount of cash.
Include other plan benefits
Metal may include additional services outside RevPoints. Their personal usefulness should be considered separately rather than assuming every advertised feature has equal value.
There is no universal Metal break-even spending amount
A reliable break-even calculation requires the actual subscription fee, the points difference compared with your current plan and the genuine value of rewards you would redeem. Without those inputs, any fixed monthly spending threshold would be misleading.
Which purchases earn Metal RevPoints?
Metal’s earning rate applies only to eligible transactions. Revolut excludes several payment types and merchant categories, so not every purchase or account movement qualifies.
Qualifying purchases with a supported card can earn points at the applicable regular Metal rate. Everyday spending may qualify where the transaction meets the programme rules and is not assigned to an excluded merchant category.
Revolut’s official exclusions include money transfers, wallet top-ups, cryptocurrency purchases, brokerage activity, certain financial and insurance services, and other cash-like payments.
Tax payments, fines, penalties, gambling or betting, utility providers and various government-related payments are also excluded, alongside particular merchant categories such as certain real estate, rental, parking, maintenance and specialised business services.
Revolut Pro transactions are excluded from the regular personal RevPoints earning rules described in the official sources used for this guide.
Example: spending exclusions reduce your estimated points
Suppose a UK Metal customer has £2,400 in monthly outgoings, but £600 relates to excluded payments. The remaining £1,800 in fully eligible debit card purchases would produce a simplified estimate of 900 RevPoints, not 1,200.
For further details, read our Eligible RevPoints Spending Guide.
Can Metal customers earn RevPoints in other ways?
Regular card purchases are only one method of collecting RevPoints. Eligible Metal customers may have access to additional earning opportunities, depending on the market and offer.
Revolut Shops
Purchases from participating retailers may qualify for additional points when the specific Shops offer requirements are met.
Stays & Experiences
Selected accommodation and experience bookings may provide additional points subject to the relevant booking conditions.
Revolut Pay
Eligible payments with participating Revolut Pay merchants may earn points through supported programme offers.

Are Spare Change RevPoints free?
No. Spare Change uses money from your account to purchase points where supported. These purchased points must be distinguished from RevPoints awarded through qualifying card spending.
Before purchasing points, consider the purchase cost, expiry rules and realistic redemption options. More points do not automatically mean a financial benefit.

How can you redeem RevPoints earned with Metal?
Metal customers can use eligible RevPoints for the rewards offered to their account. Redemption options depend on the country, current programme benefits and the applicable terms.

Do Revolut Metal RevPoints expire?
Revolut’s official guidance for the five reviewed markets states that points are generally valid for three years from their issue date.
Points earned on different dates can have different expiry dates, and collecting additional points should not be assumed to renew the validity of an existing balance.
You can check your points balance and the relevant expiry information through the RevPoints section of the Revolut app.
